November-December Golf Highlights:
As we enter late autumn, just a reminder about the fall and winter operations of the golf club.
Weather permitting, the course is open all winter. If you plan to play winter golf, or to take a winter vacation and will need your clubs, please take your clubs from the bag room before Thanksgiving Day. Since the clubhouse is open only when weather permits during the winter months, there may not be anyone available to retrieve them for you.
When carts are available, please stay in the rough and use the cart paths. The clubhouse may not be open if it’s too wet for cart traffic. If the weather is questionable, call before you make the trip to the club to avoid disappointment.
With the half off guest fees, when the weather is mild, bring out some friends or perhaps a prospective member to enjoy the late fall golf.
The Pro Shop will remain open through Friday, December 23 for all of Santa’s helpers. After the 23rd, it will be open only when the course is dry enough for cart traffic.
I have a good inventory of the Taylor Mode “white” fairway woods and hybrid Rescue’s that match the many drivers that I sold this past summer. These would make excellent presents to put under the Christmas tree this holiday season.
I also do not want to close the season without saying “thank you” for all of your golf shop patronage. This year we experienced the most trying weather conditions in the business, in my lifetime, and in spite of the economy, your support was much appreciated.
The late fall newsletter always concludes with our “open Christmas Card” to the club. Janet and I would like to wish all a very healthy and happy holiday season. Have a safe and, most of all, a healthy winter. And I hope to see everyone at the club’s holiday party on Saturday, December 3. And, to see everyone back in the spring!
Terry’s “Tee Tip” The ”Bump and Run” Shot
This is a shot you might face often, usually when you have knocked a shot over the green and down the bank.
With the pin in the back of the green you have not much green to work with, so a pitch shot is out of the question.
To play the bump and run into a bank, choose a less-lofted club and let it bounce up the slope. The shot is played by positioning the ball just back of middle, setting your weight on your front foot and your hands ahead. It also helps if you use the right hand to rotate and turn the club over through impact. This helps the ball “run” up the slope.
If you are going to err, hit it too hard rather than soft. If you knock it past the hole, you always have a chance with the putt coming back, rather than leaving it short, halfway up the slope.
Practice this shot around our lower putting green, then take it to the course.
Remember, the “longest drive in golf” is from the practice tee to the first tee.
CONGRATULATIONS CORNER
Congrats to Joel Greco who had a hole-in-one on #2 on September 28.
